Description
An extremely limited ( only 200 ), and very rare, privately printed early motoring book that is titled " Log Of My Motor 1899 - 1908 " written by W. K Vanderbilt, Jr. This 206 page book describes Mr. Vanderbilt's motoring travels throughout Europe with a wonderful chapter detailing his racing successes! The photo in the front of the book shows a picture of the racing Grand Prix Renault that Mr. Vanderbilt purchased for his own private enjoyment! An avid motoring enthusiest, Mr. Vanderbilt was the same man who organized the famed Vanderbilt Cup races in the United States in the early 1900s. His racing successes also included the setting of the land speed record at Daytona Beach, Florida in January 1904 while he was driving a Mercedes at 92.308 MPH over the flying mile! This book was privately published in 1908 by William K Vanderbilt Jr. in an edition of only 200 copies. It is my understanding that these books were presented to Mr. Vanderbilt's family and friends as gifts! This book has been rebound with nice blue cloth covers and silver titling. These books were luxuriously printed on hand-cut paper and with gilt applied to the top of the pages. This is a highly sought after motor title and over the years I have seen these books sell for over $1,500! This book is in Very Good+ condition showing light use and age toning to the pages. Don't miss this opportunity to add this extremely rare book to your motoring library! I will require the successful bidder to purchase delivery insurance on this rare book. ** Please see the other rare books, magazines and racing items that I am listing for sale this week!
