Cooking For My Family is a collection of Italian recipes and memories from my Mother's Hoboken Kitchen. The memories of good food, my family and our Italian neighborhood come forth through the eyes of a little Italian girl growing up in a 5-room apartment in Hoboken, NJ. Living at 207 Willow Avenue, was Mom, Dad, Nonna, and my two brothers and two sisters. Though our family of eight did not have much money, we had a very loving family and an abundance of good food on the table for any occasion. I remember Sunday mornings the most when Mom would start the "gravy" as we called it. Sunday was a day of rest for everyone but Mom. I could smell that gravy from my bedroom. It was like an alarm clock. I was out of bed in 2 minutes flat and by the 3rd minute, I'd already had a meatball and was looking for a chunk of bread to dunk in the gravy. Everyone we knew lived in town. Aunt Anna and Uncle Pete lived at 219 Park Avenue, Aunt Nancy and Uncle Dominick lived on Grand Street. We had lots of Uncles, Aunts and cousins between Mom and Dad, and I'm pretty sure we had an Italian representative on every block. Keeping this in mind, everyone would wind up at our home for the holidays - and slept over as well. We had a 5-room apartment and loved every minute of the laughter and stories everyone told on these nights. Mostly, I remember the laughter. As that little 5-year old grew older, all the wonderful memories, stories, traditions and of course recipes she collected over the years have come alive in this cookbook. I am very proud of my Italian heritage and it is my wish that you enjoy "Cooking For My Family" as much as my Mom loved cooking for her family..... HAPPY BIDDING!!!
