Description
***FIRST PRINTING OF A NEW POEM "GOOD RELIEF" SIGNED BY*** "ROBERT FROST" IN COME CHRISTMAS: A CHRISTMAS ANTHOLOGY EDITED BY LESLEY FROST New York: Coward-McCann, Inc., 1929, 1935.  First 1935 Edition, First Printing.  Hardcover with blue cloth lettered and decorated in gold gilt on the spine.  4 1/2" by 7 3/4".  430 pages.  Illustrated with numerous woodcuts throughout the text. Edited by Robert Frost's daughter, Lesley Frost, and subtitled, "A Collection of Christmas Poetry, Song, Drama and Prose," this volume contains poems, prose, plays, children's verse, carols with music, and poems of Christianity by such noted writers as Geoffrey Chaucer, William Makepeace Thackery, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Charles Lamb, William Wordsworth, Alfred Tennyson, Robert Browning, Robert Louis Stevenson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Blake, G. K. Chesterton, and many, many others. This book also contains a poem by Lesley Frost's father, the Poet Robert Frost, who contributed his poem, "Christmas Trees (A Christmas Circular Letter)" which appears on page 56, and which was first published in Robert Frost's third book of poetry, Mountain Interval, in 1916.   In addition, this book contains the First Appearance or the First Printing of a New Poem by Robert Frost, "Good Relief."  According to Jeffrey Cramer's book, Robert Frost Among His Poems, "Good Relief" was inspired by a Christmas shopping trip Robert Frost took to High Wycombe in December 1912 while Frost was living in England. The printed poem appears on page 4 of this book.  This First 1935 Edition also contains the First Printing or First Appearance of a four-page Facsimile of an Autographed Manuscript of "Good Relief" Signed by Robert Frost as a frontispiece for the book. THIS IS AN AUTOGRAPHED COPY SIGNED BY THE POET ON THE FIRST TITLE PAGE OF THE FOUR-PAGE FACSIMILE  MANUSCRIPT WITH THE POET'S TYPICAL FOUNTAIN-PEN-AND-BLUE-INK SIGNATURE, AND IN HIS UNIQUE AND INIMITABLE HANDWRITING: "ROBERT FROST" Presumably, Robert Frost provided this four-page Autograph Manuscript Signed of "Good Relief" at the request of the publisher, Coward-McCann, to help increase sales of the original 1929 edition of his daughter Lesley's book.  The poem, "Good Relief," was never collected or published by Robert Frost in any of his eleven books of poetry.  Corners slightly bumped and edges rubbed with some noticeable darkening or "browning" along the edges of the covers, and the previous owner's name blind-stamped at the bottom of the half-title page, otherwise, a Very Good Autographed Copy internally in nice, tight, clean and collectible condition in the publisher's scarce original printed and colorfully illustrated dust jacket that is chipped and missing a piece from the front cover.  Copies of Come Christmas edited by Robert Frost's daughter, Lesley Frost, and signed by her father, the Poet "Robert Frost" are very rare indeed.  Additional pictures are available upon request.  Buyer pays $6.00 Media Mail  OR  $10.00 Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation in the U.S.  Insurance required and additional at cost.  Foreign buyers should contact me before buying.
