Bound in what appears to be its Original Binding of 1/2 Leather with Marbled Boards, Professionally rebacked with Original Spine laid over! Contains 258 printed pages plus advertisement, a full page Engraving / Plate of Animals, and a Map of North America that someone has tipped in. His occupation, however, led to his untimely demise, as the native Indians realized that the surveyor’s presence was always preceded by more white settlers and, subsequently, their displacement. In 1811 Lawson was captured by Tuscarora Indians while ascending the Neuse River and was sentenced to be burned at the stake. He "was the first victim of Indian vengeance" (Field, p. 229).
