Description
A History of the Boston Base Ball Club 1871 - 1897 by George V. Tuohey, M.F. Quinn, Boston, 1897, 1st edition Vey nice copy of one of the finest and scarcest of 19th Century baseball books. The author discusses the history of baseball in Boston from the club's beginnings in the National Association in 1871 through the 1897 season. Loaded with black-and-white illustrations of various teams and players, and represents a wealth of lore from this significant period and place in baseball history. There are photos and biographies of some of the key players of the era, including Mike "King" Kelly, Hugh Duffy, John Clarkson, "Kid" Nichols and many others. Quite scarce, this book may have been available exclusively in the Boston area, perhaps given out to players and executives only. This copy is in quite good condition, nicer than usually found (when found at all). There is some light even wear to the covers. The binding and pages are still pretty sound. The interior is very good; the only writing is an owner's name & address neatly written on the inside of the front cover on the front pastedown. I'm listing a number of baseball titles today, so check my other book auctions. I have also listed a number of scarce baseball books in my Ebay Store. High bidder pays $4 postage
