Description
Eight very early items and a very uncommon interview with the New York (later California) poet, writer and rock and roller Jim Carroll include a poem (he was then 18 years-old) in the Paris Review, Summer 1968 (an issue which includes one of Jack Kerouac's last interviews); also, a poem, "Traffic" by Carroll (and 9 unpublished poems by New York poet Frank O'Hara and another by Richard Brautigan) in this Winter 1968 number of the Paris Review. In addition, from April 1969, Carroll provides a poem, "The Distances" that marks his first appearance in Chicago's Poetry Magazine. Also, in the Paris Review for Fall 1969, Carroll offers two new poems, "Heroin" and "The Birth and Death of the Sun." Also, from the Paris Review of Fall 1970 Carroll provides excerpts from his "Basketball Diaries" (here first published and not published in book form until 1978). In addition, Gerard Malaga offers an essay in review of Carroll's early volume, Living at the Movies in this December 1974 number of Poetry (Chicago); also, more poems, from Carroll's "NYC Variations" in this Winter 1985 number of the Paris Review. Last, but not least, an uncommon longer interview (see photo) with Carroll adorns the cover and succeeding pages of this complete issue (oversize) of Poetry Flash (Berkeley, Ca.) for December 1991. The interview, "Back Beat: An Interview with Jim Carroll," is by Frank Andrick. All complete issues, a few with a bit of edgewear. See photo.
