Description
“After Midnight”Photography by Axel HüttePublished by Schirmer-Mosel, Munich, in association with Waddington Galleries, London, 2007.LIMITED EDITION with SIGNED PRINTThe luminescent glow of major cities, with their intersection of winding highways and city blocks, shines off the glossy pages of this beautiful book from Axel Hütte. Particularly enticing are the photographs that contrast the dark spaces around the cities – the night sky, the unlit desert – with the vibrant burn of their lights, giving the impression of never-ending action and life.FROM THE PUBLISHER: After midnight, when America’s metropolises fall asleep, Axel Hütte sets to work. From his sky-rise hotel room window, he casts a glance over nocturnal cityscapes, photographing what metropolises like Chicago, Las Vegas, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Houston reveal at this hour: the black silhouettes of buildings in front of a dark sky, rows of street lights, dots of color forming neon signs, here and there a bright window. Cities never sleep, absolute darkness does not exist, and stars seldom have a chance to win against the brightness of neon and night life.Axel Hütte, who was born in 1951, is an experienced nocturnal photographer. In his book “As Dark as Light”, published by Schirmer/Mosel in 2001, he explored the non-urban nighttime landscape, which, in its peacefulness under a starry sky á la Elsheimer or Caspar David Friedrich, becomes a counterpart to the restless sleep of major American cities. This book appears on the occasion of an exhibition of Hütte's most recent work in the Waddington Galleries, London. This LIMITED EDITION title is offered in AS NEW condition, #94 of just 100 issued. Bilingual edition in English and German. It comes in a magnificent slipcase bound in a silken blue cloth with no printing on it. The slipcase measures 11 ½ x 14 inches. The book is a hardcover with a high-gloss pictorial dust jacket. The title and Artist's name are printed on the bright yellow boards of the book, which is NUMBERED. 56 pages with 21 color plates. Measures 11 1/8 x 13 7/8 inches. Features an introduction by Martin Filler. Published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Waddington Galleries in London, 4-26 October, 2006. Includes a C-PRINT, “Las Vegas, Stratosphere Tower, 2003”, which comes in a folder bound in the same fabric as the slipcase. A tipped-in paper indicates the title, Artist, and number. The print is SIGNED, TITLED, DATED, and NUMBERED by the Artist on the lower border. The print image is 8 ½ x 10 ½ inches on a 10 x 12 inch paper.PAYMENT DETAILSPlease use the shipping calculator to determine your shipping costs for US addressesInternational shipping is availableI will only accept PayPal, personal checks, and money orders (bank, post office).
