Description
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS From the Private Library of William G. Wilson (BILL W) Own a piece of history! Bill Wilson interview on NY Radio Station with Martha Dean This aired live in May 1956 The record sleeve contains a handwritten note from Bill W. thanking Nell Wing his them personal secretary. The radio talk host was Martha Dean she interviewed Bill W and Eve M. This record set is the one presented to Bill and was kept in personal library until after his death in 1971. Bill Wilson was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 people most important people of the century. BILL WILSON - Cofounder of Alcoholics Anonymous Members of A. A. are very grateful for the contribution made by Bill W and his wife Lois. Their lives have truly had a global impact and many people have credited Alcoholics Anonymous for having saved their lives. Today A. A. numbers nearly two million members. In 1973 Lois Wilson decided to donate some items that belonged to Bill W to her friends from Texas Bill & Arbutus O'Neal. The O'Neal's owned and operated the Midwest Tape Library which was a private library, dedicated to preserve the audio history of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. The O'Neal's did a wonderful job for many year's gathering recordings and other A.A./ Al-Anon memorabilia from all parts of the world and hardly a weekend past that Bill wasn't recording a round-up or convention. THIS RECORDING A two record set (33,1/3) of an interview done in New York, May 1956. “WRP” This is the Martha Dean show and she interviews Bill Wilson and Eve M (Eve was another A.A. member, and General Service Office staff member). What’s most interesting about this set is that on the sleeve of the record, Bill Wilson wrote a note which reads: “Nell, did I thank you for these 2 – WPR – Martha Dean Interview Eve Marsh, + self. May/56”. Nell Wing was his secretary at the time. I took several pictures of the sleeve for you. Now, these records are still playable although very fragile. Bill talks about the early days after his spiritual experience! How A.A. grew! HOW RARE IS THIS? I have questioned many of the top dealer's throughout the country and asked them if they have ever seen for sale any item that was personally owned by Bill Wilson? The answer has been 100% NO! Twice in the past five years there has been one item that sold twice!!! (Which did belong to Bill W) That is the ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT Printers copy Sold for over a Million Dollars Information on the manuscript can be found online; www.aaholygrail.com Determining the value of an item like this is nearly impossible. As A. A. grows older and more people become involved in collecting the prices go up. For example five years ago I could find a First Edition Big Book for $4,500 -$6,000 today the same book sells for $9,500 - $15,000. As Alcoholics Anonymous approaches the 75th Anniversary in 2010. I could see this item being worth $100,000 or more to a collector that is determined to own something that belonged to Bill Wilson. This will make a great investment. I am in the process of converting over 3,000 reel-to-reel recordings to a digital format, which were also part of this library. This has created a tremendous expense and in an effort to help fund the project I am selling some of the items that are very rare. The overall condition of this set is good to very good. The interview is three sides; these old records were aluminum and had a coating over them that they cut the sound into. Bare with me because I really know nothing about that process, side one and three seem very good, side two has the coating chipped off in the beginning (the edge of the record). I doubt very much that it can be repaired. I would say that all that is missing is about 45 seconds of Eve M’s part of the interview. The winning bidder will receive the two record set, the signed record sleeve, a cd of the interview. I will also include a letter of authenticity stating all the information about this collection.
