Another very interesting and rare profusely illustrated volume - a must have for those with an interest in Architecture and Art. This volume is Rules and Examples of Perspective Proper for Painters and Architects, by Andrea Pozzo, published in English, London, no date but circa 1723. A fascinating folio, complete, with 101 copper-plate engravings, ornately decorated also with engraved vignettes throughout, in 18th Century calf with raised dentelles on the spine and gilt-tooled spine, with an ornate spine label. A riveting work, wonderful to own as an antiquarian edition so elaborately published, in fine very old leather, text and plates engraved and printed on laid paper, substantial large folio approx. 9 3/4" X 16 1/8 ". BOOK: Pozzo, Andrea. Rules and Examples of Perspective Proper for Painters and Architects, etc. Done into English from the Original Printed at Rome in 1693 in Latin by Mr. John James of Greenwich. Published by J. Senex and R. Gosling, London, no date but circa 1723. Copper Plate Engravings by John Sturt.(The ""Approbation of this Edition" ( in the volume after the dedication to Queen Anne) was co-authored with two others by SIR CHRISTOPHER WREN, the great British Architect best known for St.Paul's Cathedral in London. Christopher Wren died in 1723.) BOOK CONDITION: The volume is in good condition for age nearing 300 years, and is gift-worthy. The original calf with old wear, the hinges and spine professionally repaired and reinforced, retaining the original laid-paper end papers, the binding thus now strong and sound as new. A preserved and well cared-for antiquarian volume. Some old staining to the end papers near lower edge, a small early bookplate on front pastdown, probably also circa 1720s. Some folds to title and a small piece of blank margin worn or torn off the very edge, slight soiling and repair to lower right corner of the page dedicated to Queen Anne, otherwise, excellent original condition for the age, although it is impossible to describe all small colour differentiations and all evidence of age on the paper, no significant marks or big stains noted, a very attractive book in clean condition as shown below in the photographs, a very well and carefully kept volume, pages are bright and clean, no detracting faults and the copper plate printing left a good impression. (The photographs do not do justice, the pages in some photos appear yellowed and darkened - the book is not, it is a uniform color throughout.) Please look at the brighter photos for the color. The ornate calf binding appears to be 18th Century. Printed on laid paper. A very ornate, interesting and readable volume - certain to please a collector. Good luck and happy reading!
