Description
This is an endlessly entertaining volume, a treasure, one of our favourite and best books! We shall miss this book, especially at Christmas! The book is, of course, none other than Grimm's Fairy Tales, superbly illustrated and decorated in colour and black-and-white by Arthur Rackham, this book is also very special as a Limited Signed Edition of 750 copies. We hope you will enjoy it. The illustrations to the book are very well known and much loved. We have endeavoured to include as many photographs of the charming colour plates and of the numerous, numerous black-and-white drawing and vignettes below. The book is profusely illustrated and decorated, a most entertaining, delightful volume. We hope it will bring you much enjoyment for the years to come! The Fairy Tales include many all-time favourites, including: Jorinda and Joringel, The Bremen Town Musicians, Tom Thumb, The Briar Rose, The Frog Prince, Rapunzel, The Cat and Mouse in Partnership, The Valiant Taylor, The Goose Girl, Hansel and Grethel, Snowdrop, Ashenputtel, The Queen Bee, Clever Hans, The Golden Goose, The Water of Life, The Seven Ravens - and many, many more! Book: GRIMM’S FAIRY TALES, or The Fairy Tales of The Brothers Grimm, illustrated by Arthur Rackham. One of a limited edition of 750 copies, signed by Arthur Rackham on the limitation page. Publisher: Constable & Company, London, 1909. Forty full colour tipped-in illustrations, all under red-captioned tissues, and numerous black and white drawings, silhouettes and vignettes by Arthur Rackham, this volume is profusely illustrated and decorated. The text and black and white illustrations are on English hand-made paper, which is textured and thick, similar to Arches or Fabriano. Impressive, thick quarto. Top Edge Gilt (TEG), others uncut. Original full vellum binding with a gilt cover and spine, original yellow silk ties. Book condition: A lovely copy. Externally, VG. The photographs do not do justice, there is some age wear and light soiling to vellum, but an attractive and overall clean and bright copy. Some light soiling, minor marks and minor scuffs to boards and spine, some bumping to head and foot of spine. Spine somewhat darkened. Silk ties slightly soiled and frayed at edge. Top Gilt Edge bright. Gilt designs on the cover bright. Minimal shelf wear commensurate with age. Internally, VG+. The free endpapers browned and spotted as is typical, with some discoloured area, as if a piece of paper, a dust jacket or some memorabilia, has been folded in at one time. Beyond the free endpapers, very occasional scattered pale spotting, which is minimal, the contents are bright and clean overall. The tissue over frontis is yellowed, lightly spotted and with folds. The rest of the tissues are better and flat. The exposed paper edges are dusty, darkened and soiled due to shelf exposure. Some transferring of the black and white illustrations to adjacent text pages as is typical, due to the deep black inks used. This is noted on all copies of this edition. All of the superbly entertaining and charming plates after Arthur Rackham's excellent watercolours are in fine condition without creases. No bookplates or inscriptions, or detracting marks. An excellent copy internaly. We hope you will enjoy the book! Good luck and enjoy your win! Happy and peaceful reading! SHIPPING: We are happy to ship worldwide. In the case of combined postage for small or light items, additional items usually require only an increase in insurance if the value is substantially increased, i.e., shipping two flat prints or two small bowls produces a substantial saving to shipping just one small bowl or one flat print. Mainland UK postage is approximated and stated for buyers' convenience. UK 24HR shipping: £ 18.50 (thick volume, insured, recorded, trackable, well boxed to arrive safely.) All our good books are shipped in boxes and well wrapped. USA, CANADA, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Australia, other destinations, we will ship AT COST via courier ( due to weight) or by other methods stated above as agreed with the high bidder. CONDITIONS OF SALE: PAYMENT: Payment by Paypal, UK check/money order to our UK address, EURO check to our UK address, US/CDN check/money order to our North American address. Payment to be received within fourteen days unless otherwise agreed prior to auction end. Due to the costs of shipping to world destinations, the costs of the listings and Paypal fees, all sales are final. We do not offer refunds or exchanges for any reason unless the item has been grossly misrepresented in terms of material or quantity, i.e five teacups not six, brass not gold. We do our best to accurately describe the age, origin, manfacturer and all attributes of each and every object, however this remains our informed opinion and subject of our reserach not a guarantee or a warranty. We provide the best photographs that we can and to describe the object in detail including any faults or defects could affect value or use. Please note however that many of our items are antiques and vintages, over 100 years old, sometimes much older. Please satisfy yourself as to the item prior to auction end.
