This listing is for 20 of the books described below.  If you'd like more than 20, please let us know, and we're happy to sell them to you at $2 each (although we'll have to check inventory first & see how many we have left!).   Note:  If you’d like the 85-year-old author to sign a special message on your book (e.g. for a gift), please let us know.  She’s happy to do so and will mail you the book herself.   * * *   This is a true story told like fiction.  It gives briefly the early life of Jenny on the farm and relates what happens later.  Her farm life essentially ends when she graduates from high school and goes to college in Springfield, Missouri, entering in 1940 and graduating in 1943.  World War II has started by this time, causing a major turmoil in the lives of young people.  Jenny is fortunate enough to get a teaching job in her hometown of Marshfield, Missouri.  At first, she is quite happy to live close to her farm home, which she loves.  But after a couple of years, she feels increasingly isolated and experiences a major conflict over her desire to achieve something worthwhile in life, and the necessity of having to leave home to do it.   She leaves and spends an exciting summer in Chicago in 1945, the year that sees the end of the War.  Then she teaches in Wyoming for a few months.  By now, she is convinced that to be successful she has to go to graduate school.  So it’s back to Missouri where she enters the graduate school at the University of Missouri, Columbia.  She is surprised, for it is nothing like what she had imagined.  She was certainly not welcomed with open arms.  She had to work for a living at substandard jobs, and had to compete with returning soldiers, mostly men, in a terribly overcrowded campus.   * * *   “Jenny of the Ozarks, Grown Up” is an interesting story of a young woman as she makes her way in a difficult world.  In addition, it gives a revealing picture of what colleges were like.   “Jenny of the Ozark Mountains” is a warm human story for both children and adults.  It should also be of interest historically.   “’Jenny’ is quite charming, nicely detailed and smoothly written, full of interesting incidents; the story rings true.”  Jo Sapp, literary editor, UMC, Columbia, Missouri.   “Well-organized, fast-paced, and action-filled, the story should be enjoyable to young adults, and also has many features which make it interesting historically. ...[It is] an interesting and very different view of ‘the good old days.’”  Kathleen Van Buskirk, The Ozark Mountaineer.    “Jenny of the Ozark Mountains is told with frankness and candor.  I would recommend it for both children and adults.”  Elanor Burtner Williamson, teacher, Springfield, Missouri.   “It’s well done and professionally put together.”  Bill Nunn, former correspondent, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Loose Creek, Missouri.  “I finished Jenny of the Ozark Mountains and I really enjoyed it. You had a remarkable life and story and I’m glad you are sharing it....  Thank you again, for your kindness and your wonderful contribution to the history of our county.”  -- Sue Ikerd, Reader
