Johnsoniana SAMUEL JOHNSON Quotation BOOKENDS c.1930s Celebrated English Scholar,Essayist,Lexicographer Start Price USD 249.00 Current Price USD 249.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Monday, September 29, 2008 End Time Wednesday, October 29, 2008 Location Michigan See more about 'Johnsoniana SAMUEL JOHNSON Quotation BOOKENDS c.1930s' Description I am offering a rare vintage pair of  bookends with an Art Deco motiff, circa 1930s, featuring a quotation from Samuel Johnson.  Wonderful condition for its age and quite a substantial pair.  They don't make like this any more.  The Johnson quote on each bookend reads as follows:   "BOOKS THAT YOU MAY CARRY TO THE FIRE AND HOLD READILY IN YOUR HAND ARE THE MOST USEFUL AFTER ALL - JOHNSONIANA".  The bookends are in the style of those bookends manufactured by Bradley and Hubbard Manufacturing Company, aka B&H, which began in 1854 in Meriden, Connecticut.   Bradley and Hubbard bookends are quality weighted bookends through and through.  On the bottom of each bookend is an paper label that states: "SAMUEL JOHNSON BORN IN ENGLAND 1709, DIED 1784  a CELEBRATED SCHOLAR, ESSAYIST and LEXICOGRAPHER."  The SAMUEL JOHNSON  bookends' approx dimensions are 7" tall, 6"wide and 2.5" deep.  They are substantial, weighing over 9 pounds.  Original bronze hued finish over iron.  Age and use appropriate surface wear.  Very presentable.  Real charmers.  These are from my personal collection.  Please view pictures.  PICTURES ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION.  For better picture viewing,  results click onto to supersize and then maximize picture.   Shipping: Domestic Shipping- Free shipping for this domestic order in the contiguous U.S.  To determine shipping charges, please scroll down this page to the "Shipping and Handling"  section and use the shipping calculator.  I do not charge any handling fee in addition to shipping costs.
