During his lifetime, Spurgeon is estimated to have preached to 10,000,000 people. He also published more sermons and wrote more materials than any other English-speaking evangelical preacher of his day, or since. His 135 books (including the sermon series) [plus another 28 which he edited] are the equivalent of the 27 volume-9th edition Encyclopedia Britannica! Spurgeon typically read 6 books per week and could remember what he had read — and where — even years later. His own personal library contained 12,000 volumes — 1,000 printed before 1700. The LIBRARY, 5,103 volumes at the time of its auction, is now housed at William Jewell College (Liberty, Missouri USA). Before he was 20, Spurgeon had preached over 600 times. By 1865, his SERMONS sold 25,000 copies every week. Translated into more than 25 languages, they stand as his greatest literary achievement. Spurgeon once said he counted 8 sets of thoughts that passed through his mind at the same time... while he was preaching. The theme for his Sunday morning sermon was usually not chosen until Saturday night. For an average sermon, Spurgeon took no more than one page of notes into the pulpit, yet he spoke at a rate of 140 words per minute for 45-55 minutes. By accepting some of his many invitations to speak, he often preached 10 times per week and worked 18 hours per day. Long before today's Mega-churches, nearly 6,000 people crowded twice each Sunday to hear Spurgeon; in an Age of Great Preachers, WHY did he rise above them all? The METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE PULPIT is C. H. Spurgeon's original unabridged, unedited 57-Volume sermon series (originally published by Passmore & Alabaster, Spurgeon's publishers, who were also members of his church). Stenographically recorded by his peerless and untiring private secretary, Mr. J. W. Harrald, each sermon was released weekly as a "Penny Pulpit" single publication, a popular method of sermon distribution in the 1800's. It was not only the best-selling "Penny Pulpit" of that time, but the yearly volumes of these sermons out-sold and continue to out-sell any other sermon publications. The MTP Jacket Covers are unique for each volume!            — with different Color, Pictures & Testimonials by various                    Christian leaders & ministers from the late 1800s thru today.   Pilgrim Publications has been reprinting the Complete Set of sermons since 1969. After 11 years, the last volume was printed in 1980. These MTP volumes are continually reprinted in a high-quality BLACK Clothbound Binding [with 32 volumes also available in the clothbound Gold Binding]. Unfortunately, Pilgrim no longer reprints volumes in the Collector's Gold Binding as the special gold metallic cloth cover is now too expensive. With both color bindings combined, currently 54 of the 57 volumes are available — with usually 3 to 4 vols. reprinted annually. We are dedicated to keep reprinting these great sermons for years to come! From 1855, unless otherwise indicated the Sunday morning sermon was published weekly (and bound in the yearly volumes as seen below). After his death in 1892, many previously unpublished Sunday and Thursday evening sermons appear in Volumes 38 thru 63 (years 1892-1917). Some were delivered during the New Park Street years (1855-60), but not previously printed (as there are no duplicates). Each volume of sermons has a distinct and unique COLOR Jacket Cover, with ample testimonials and biographical information. Note: The reprinting of the MTP volumes is ongoing; currently 3 volumes are temporarily out/print (Vols 60 & 62/63-combined), but they will be republished by Spring 2006. (These will be sent to you at no charge when they are reprinted)  The clothbound volumes combine both black and gold-colored cloth bindings plus unique multi-colored jacket covers [different for each book].
