By 1865, his SERMONS sold 25,000 copies every week. Translated into more than 25 languages, they stand as his greatest literary achievement. Spurgeon once said he counted 8 sets of thoughts that passed through his mind at the same time... while he was preaching. The theme for his Sunday morning sermon was usually not chosen until Saturday night. For an average sermon, Spurgeon took no more than one page of notes into the pulpit, yet he spoke at a rate of 140 words per minute for 45-55 minutes. By accepting some of his many invitations to speak, he often preached 10 times per week and worked 18 hours per day.
