George Washington, Stan Henkels Auction, Phila.,1904.  This was the collection of the greatest Washington collector of all time, Mr. Hampton L. Carson, a Phila. lawyer.(See picture of his letter to Henkels)  He parted with collection because of the upkeep, & the demands to see & exhibit it.  You won't believe what he had in his collection!  This sale consisted of 1,085 lots, yes one thousand & eighty-five.  This includes Saint Memin's physionotrace of Washington,(See picture) & 761 of his own collection of proofs engraved from life by him, mounted by him & named in his autograph!   How many millions would this part of the collection bring today?  The catalog is 8" x 10 3/4", & is 173 pgs., complete, with 27 full pg.llustrations, 2 in color.(See pictures)  I assume these illustrations are complete, but there is no index in the catalog. You will notice in each illustration there is a printed red line across it to prevent people from taking it out of the catalog & trying to sell it as an original.  The descriptive information with each lot is second to none.  I believe there is no better reference for the Engraved Portraits of Washington.  I, & many of my friends, have used this information to verify Washington material over the years.  Unfortunately, it has lost its covers, & is completely disbound.  However, all the information is there with no damage, foxing, etc.  I've never seen or heard of another copy of this catalog.  It is worth the cost of having it re-bound.  Where are you going to find another?
