My Buy-It-Now price is substantially lower because a quick sale is desired.  What is Special about David Roberts's HOLY LAND? "One of the most important and elaborate ventures of nineteenth-century publishing and .. the apotheosis of the tinted lithograph." (Abbey). "In the course of two and a half months in 1838, travelling some 800 miles south from Cairo, Roberts recorded the monumental sites along the Nile." (Blackmer). The wonderful plates show landscapes, scenes from the life in the cities and streets, monuments and buildings, mostly with very picturesque illustrations depicting the inhabitants of the individual regions in the foreground. "Undoubtedly remarkable examples of tinted lithographic work .. one feels that the colossal subjects and broad vistas were ideally suited to Roberts' talent, trained as he was in theatrical scene-painting." (Abbey). EnquiriesIf you WISH TO enquire about any aspect of this sale, please send your questions to me first. Only when your enquiries have been answered to your satisfaction, proceed to bid!
