Description
***EARLY AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED*** BY "ROBERT FROST" One sheet of white paper measuring 5" by 6 1/2" written on both sides with a HANDWRITTEN LETTER SIGNED BY ROBERT FROST APPARENTLY IN APRIL 1925 TO A MISS PATTON IN TROY, NEW YORK, IN THE POET'S USUAL AND TYPICAL FOUNTAIN-PEN-AND-BLACK-INK PENMANSHIP, AND IN HIS UNIQUE AND INIMITABLE HANDWRITING: MY DEAR MISS PATTON THANKS FOR THE PLEASANT TIME YOU GAVE ME AND I WONDER IF THE ENCLOSED BOOKS WOULD MEAN ANYTHING AS REMEMBRANCES FROM ME TO ANY [OF] YOUR GIRLS OR FELLOW TEACHERS. I HAD INTENDED TO HAVE THEM WITH ME FOR DISTRIBUTION TO MY AUDIENCE. [Reverse side] WITH BEST WISHES TO YOU AND MISS JENNY SINCERELY YOURS ROBERT FROST In the lower left-hand corner of the reverse side of the letter, someone has written in pencil: "APRIL, 1925 / TROY, N.Y." Apparently, Robert Frost gave a lecture or reading at Russell Sage College, a women's college in Troy, New York, in early 1925, and presumably Miss Patton was the President of the College. The "books" that Robert Frost says are enclosed with the letter are probably copies of Several Short Poems [See Crane A8] which was a 4-page brochure with six poems by Robert Frost that was intended for distribution at lectures by Robert Frost at East Coast Colleges. There is a horizontal crease in the middle of the letter and a short one-inch closed tear along the crease and some minor foxing along one side of the letter, else a Very Good Autographed Letter Signed by Robert Frost. Early Handwritten Letters Signed by the Poet are extremely rare. FREE Priority Mail with Postal Insurance and Delivery Confirmation in the U.S.
