Description
"GETREIDESILOS" – LIMITED FIRST EDITIONPhotography by Bernd and Hilla Becher Published by Schirmer/Mosel, Munich, 2006LIMITED to 100 Copies, First Edition, Hardcover, with SIGNED PrintFor fifty years, husband and wife team Bernd and Hilla Becher have concentrated on photographing aging and defunct industrial architecture. Their work can be seen as straightforward documentation of an important period in human history, and also as aesthetic marvels, photographed with an engaging precision and detail admired throughout the photographic world. Calling these structures "anonymous sculptures," the Bechers have displayed their work in books and exhibitions to emphasize this quality, placing them in rigid grid patterns so the viewer may compare the similarities and differences between the lime kilns, coal silos, water towers, oil refineries, grain elevators and other structures that the pair have cast their eyes toward. This book collects images from Europe and the United States. From the publisher: "Bernd and Hilla Becher's foray into the world of food production focuses on grain elevators, invented for efficient loading and unloading of grain and its safe storage: cool, dry, free of pests. Mostly abandoned today, the monolithic structures towering in the flat landscapes of the world’s granaries are monuments of a bygone era."NEW, LIMITED EDITION of 100 COPIES with SIGNED PRINT.
