Description
....If Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels makes you happy -  you will certainly treasure it as a first signed limited edition with tipped-in illustrations by Arthur Rackham, the text printed on hand-made paper! ... Book: Gulliver's Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. Author: Jonathan Swift. Superbly illustrated by Arthur Rackham. One of a limited edition of 750 copies only, signed by Arthur Rackham on the limitation page. Published by J M Dent & Co., London, 1909. First edition thus with illustrations by Arthur Rackham. Publisher's original cream buckram with cloth  gilt-stamped cover and spine. Red ties. Profusely illustrated with lovely black and white drawings and vignettes, with and 13 ( thirteen) tipped-in full colour plates on gild-edged cardstock, decorated end papers. The book printed on superb quality hand-made English paper, similar to thick textured Arches of Fabriano type. Large, thick, impressive quarto. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Book condition: An excellent copy. Externally VERY GOOD. The original white gilt buckram binding is slightly soiled and slightly worn, corners are minimally bumped, slight soiling to extremities of binding, spine somewhat darkened due to shelf exposure, gilt bright, top edge bright. Ties somewhat faded, soiled, worn and wrinkled, one with old mending, all four with frayed ends. Internally, NR FINE. Endpapers slightly transferred and very slightly age soiled. The endpapers have a gold design incorporating a bookplate, which is still blank for the new owner to claim! One tissue over frontis slightly spotted and wrinkled, otherwise, no marks, no spotting to pages or tissues, no tears, exceptionally bright and clean internally, all plates in fine condition. The small piece of paper from the Publisher noting that plate opposite pg.256 is not included in the trade edition is still present!  A lovely, bright, clean copy, which appears unread internally. Book is certain to please.
