The Artist confronts the viewer with every shot. He weaves through people on the street, seeming to snap his photos off-the-cuff – he is all feel and instinct and moves from subject-to-subject with a self-imposed detachment. The images are dark and somber, full of shadows and impressions, and the bleak landscape is overwhelming, especially in such a large format. Even the daytime photos convey a feeling of darkest night. Moriyama's grainy prints resemble the strobe-light world of the relentlessly sleep-deprived.FINE, SCARCE with a slight corner crease and minor shelf-wear. It is a softcover with a pictorial dust jacket, measuring 14 ½ x 12 ¼ inches.
