This set was commissioned by the current owner in 1973, and was created using the lost wax process (so, though he made a small handful of similar sets, each is a one-of-a-kind item). The pieces are all inspired by Frank Frazetta's classic covers for Robert E. Howard's Conan book (which were set in the mythical Hyborean Age, and the detail work is unbelievable. The king and knight are 4 1/2 inches tall; the queen, bishop and castle rang from 3 1/2 to just over 4 inches; and the pawns are 2 1/4 inches.
