Description
***INTRODUCTION INSCRIBED AND SIGNED*** "ROBERT FROST TO RUSSELL ALBERTS" IN KING JASPER: A POEM BY EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON New York: The Macmillan Company, 1935. First Edition, First Printing with "Published October, 1935" stated on the Copyright Page [See Crane D7]. Hardcover with black cloth lettered in gold gilt on the front cover and spine. 5 5/8" by 8 1/4". 110 pages. Completed shortly before Robinson's death in 1935, "King Jasper" was published posthumously the same year. As a tribute to his friend and fellow poet who had been awarded a record-breaking, at that time, three Pulitzer Prizes in Poetry, Robert Frost wrote a relatively long 11-page Introduction for this volume; considering the few pieces of prose that Frost did write, the rather long length of this tribute is a sign of the great admiration and respect that Robert Frost had for E. A. Robinson and his poetry. [Robert Frost was himself awarded a third Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1937, and eventually a record-breaking fourth Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1943.] THIS VOLUME CONTAINS AN "INTRODUCTION" BY ROBERT FROST WHICH IS THE FIRST APPEARANCE OR THE FIRST PRINTING OF A NEW PROSE PIECE BY THE POET, AND IS AN AUTOGRAPHED PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY FROST JUST BENEATH HIS PRINTED NAME AT THE CONCLUSION OF HIS INTRODUCTION WITH HIS TYPICAL FOUNTAIN-PEN-AND-BLUE-INK SIGNATURE, AND IN HIS UNIQUE AND INIMITABLE HANDWRITING: "ROBERT FROST TO RUSSELL ALBERTS" Robert Frost was one of the greatest American Poets of the Twentieth Century who was awarded a record-breaking total of Four Pulitzer Prizes in Poetry for his poems such as "Birches," "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "The Road Not Taken," and who is probably best remembered now for reciting his poem "The Gift Outright" at the 1961 Inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Russell Alberts was a noted Robert Frost Collector. Fine Autographed Presentation Copy in nice, tight, clean and very collectible condition without any previous owners' bookplates or ink inscriptions or markings of any kind, in a lightly chipped and spine-darkened else Very Good printed dust jacket. Copies of early books with the First Printing of a New Prose Piece Inscribed & Signed by Robert Frost are very rare. Additional pictures are available upon request.
