Description
"KAMAITACHI" – SIGNEDPhotography by Eikoh HosoePublished by Aperture, NY, 2005Kamaitachi sees its first publication outside of Japan with this new edition. The original 1969 publication was a unique collaboration between the photographer and Butoh dancer Tasumi Hijikata. This Aperture edition, limited to a printing of 500 copies, is given a whole new, bold and elegant design, in collaboration with Hosoe. From the publisher: "Hosoe was known for pushing the boundaries of traditional photography. . . . In 'Kamaitachi,' he sought to recapture, with choreographic style, some of the lost landscapes and images of his childhood experience in the closing years of World War II." In these images, Hijikata appears as a ghost-like figure, evoking a mythical beast wandering the countryside of Hosoe's youth. The book features a preface by Shuzo Takiguchi and a poem by Toyoichiro Miyoshi.AS NEW, SIGNED FIRST EDITION, SCARCE. Kamaitachi is a hardcover book, encased in a colorful and graphically illustrated clamshell box. The white cloth boards are illustrated with bold black graphics and covered with a plastic dust jacket with the book's title printed across.
