Description
Below is another superb find. Another version of Le Morte D'Arthur, you can see we have quite a few editions of this must-have classic. Le Morte D'Arthur is one of our very very best loved favourites  - I hope you enjoy it. Hence we have quite a few different editions of this work. This romance particularly stunning when illuminated by the unique vision of artists like Aubrey Beardsley, Arthur Rackham, William Russell Flint - this version, below, is by Beardsley. This set is very rare edition of Beardsley's Le Morte D'Arthur indeed. Well, enjoy! Book: Le Morte D'Arthur, Thomas Malory. This edition is fantastically illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley and beautifully published by Dent and Co., in London, 1893. This set is one the LIMITED FIRST EDITION of1500 copies and 300 on Dutch paper, issued as 2 volumes. Exceedingly rare in PUBLISHER'S ORIGINAL ELABORATELY GILT-STAMPED VELLUM, which was generally reserved for the special copies on Dutch Paper, but a few copies on hand-made paper were bound in vellum also by special request and arrangement with the publishers. ( This information from my research...). Text printed on thick hand-made Arches or Fabriano type paper. Absolutely profusely illustrated with drawings and vignettes, and decorations in the text. Beautiful photogravure frontis in each volume, pubilshers' original green wrappers bound in. Beardsley's supreme effort, an Opus Magnum!!! Truly a pleasure to behold - this exceedingly rare vellum bound set of Beardsley's Le Morte D'Arthur would make a fantastic, thrilling, treasured gift.  Book condition: Externally and internally VERY NR FINE. Volume I contains an elegant beautiful bookplate on front pastedown. Slight darkening and slight rubbing of gilt on vellum. Slight tarnishing of gilt. Slight darkening of free endpapers due to age of over 100 years. Slight aging of papers - all commensurate with age. Some transferring of deep black inks to adjacent pages, as is typical with books printed on handmade porous papers. No other issues. A most carefully kept heirloom set with minor shelf wear only. Binding sound and tight. Not shaken. Corners not bumped. No detracting issues of note whatsoever, no irregularities - as issued by publishers over a century ago excepting the addition of the beautiful and elegant bookplate, which is photographed. A beautiful set certain to please the generations to come. Good luck and enjoy your win! SHIPPING: We are happy to ship worldwide and to combine shipping on multiple purchases.
