A matching set of two most excellent works by Richard Wagner, Lohengrin and Tannhauser, with tipped-in illustrations after Willy Pogany, first editions, in superb full gilt tooled leather binding. Book 1: Tannhauser, a Dramatic Poem. Freely Translated in Poetic Decorative Form by T.W. Rolleston. Author: Wagner, Richard. Superbly and imaginatively illustrated by Willy Pogany. Publisher: Harrap, no date but circa 1911, first edition this. Ornate tooled leather, gilt designs, very decorative spine, TEG ( top edge gilt), others uncut. Decorated end papers. All pages with decoration and ornamentation, black and white and duotone drawings, decorations and vignettes, in addition, 16 full colour plates, each separately printed and tipped-in onto decorated mounts. The contents on a creamy gray colour paper, they are all uniform in colour ( any differentiation is due to the photography). A beautiful book. Book condition: Internally and externally in fine condition. No marks of note, no bookplates or inscriptions. In every way a lovely copy. Book 2: The Tale of Lohengrin, Knight of the Swan, after the drama by Richard Wagner, told by T. W. Rolleston. Superbly and imaginatively illustrated by Willy Pogany.
