This is a beautiful first edition / first printing dust-jacketed set of the four volumes comprising THE ALEXANDRIA QUARTET by Lawrence Durrell. They are titled: JUSTINE, BALTHAZAR, MOUNTOLIVE, and CLEA. All four volumes are TRUE first edition / first printings (London: Faber & Faber) by the British Durrell, with the required first edition statement in each volume. Each is a first printing. Justine, by far the scarcest volume, is SIGNED by Lawrence Durrell on a laid-in page. This is a VERY GOOD complete set of books in VERY GOOD dust jackets. JUSTINE. London: Faber & Faber, 1957. "First Published mcmlvii by Faber and Faber Limited" stated on copyright page, as required. This is correct designation for FIRST EDITION and FIRST PRINTING of this book. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD dust jacket. Has a previous owner's small name on first free endpage. Some of the gilt lettering on the spine slightly rubbed. Very clean text and interior. Tips and ends sharp. Some light shelfwear to cloth at bottom edge of front panel. This volume is SIGNED BY LAWRENCE DURRELL on a loose leaf laid in (see photo). The supplied dust jacket is slightly later than the book and has original price of 16s net on front flap, a chip at base of spine, and light wear at the top of the spine and at corners, plus two short edge tears.
