In MINT condition, this catalog is from an exhibition entitled The Royal Family, held at Richard Heller Gallery from November 13 - December 18, 2004. The Royal Family is a collective founded by Marcel Dzama and comprised of his family: sister Hollie; uncle Neil Farber; wife Shelley Dick; mother Jeanette, and father Maurice. It was conceived as a successor of Marcel's celebrated Royal Art Lodge, founded while he was still in college and comprised of classmates. The drawings and paintings here are whimsical and charming, even funny, but there is a darker undercurrent. As Vanity Fair described: "Part A. A. Milne, part Hieronymus Bosch, Marcel Dzama's delicately rendered miniatures caress the eye with their gentle lines and soothing palette... and then they bite, as their cruel, violent, psycho-sexual mysteries come into focus." This is a softcover book with French folds and a pictorial cover and back. The book is un-paginated (approximately 40 pages) with 66 color illustrations inside. It measures 10 ¾ x 8 ½ inches. This book is very scarce and has been out of print for awhile (this copy was originally purchased at the Giant Robot store in Los Angeles half a year ago.Take a look at my other auctions!
