Description
E N T H U S I A S T ART BOOKS & FINE ART We purchase Artist Estates as well as art libraries and our goal is to provide, through eBay, a constantly replenished veritable "candystore" of rare and out-of-print books, catalogs and fine art for the lover of American & European prints and paintings... The item you are bidding on is: Sarah Raphael 1960-2001. A Survey of work from 1994-2001 , by RAPHAEL Frederic, JAMES Clive, BOYD William, DAY-LEWIS Daniel , Marlborough 2003, Includes contributions by distinguished writers and 40 colour plates. Soft Cover. 4to size. 44 pages, Fine/Near Fine condition. Sarah, the daughter of writer Frederick Raphael, died tragically young, at age 41. This memorial exhibition starts with a selection of work from the ‘Desert Paintings’, which resulted from her visit to Australia as the first winner of the Jerwood Prize. Also included will be some work from the ‘STRIP!’ series exhibited at Marlborough Fine Art in 1998. Sarah said of her STRIP! series that the ambiguous forms are reminiscent of actual, familiar things but lack enough identifying features to be specifically nameable: the story is gradually stripped away while a suggestive meaning is implied but never asserted. A present of some etchings tools took Sarah Raphael to Hope (Sufferance) Press in the spring of 1999 and she spent two weeks experimenting with etching, using the concepts from her STRIP! paintings and, thereby, defining what became her Small Objects series. Some ten etched plates formed the basic matrices of her exploration, which progressed in a series of studio sessions over eighteen months. Plates have been printed in combination, inked in silver to create negative images and hand painted by Raphael. In the Small Objects in Transit series, Sarah worked on monotype prints incorporating silver, gold and bronze leaf, sometimes with ink, sometimes with a ‘blind’ etching plate and embossing – but still using the same basic etched plates. Rare and out of print ephemera for the collector / scholar of American and European art. ********** See below for our COMBINED SHIPPING DISCOUNTS!
