Its abbey rises like a mirage, high above the sea, on this craggy, rocky perch. It is a spectacular sight, and one that Kenna has been drawn to many times over the years. By day, the island is alive with cars, buses, people, noise. It can seem a garish place. But at night, it becomes as originally intended: a place for peace, prayer, and quiet contemplation. It is that gentler face of Mont St Michel that Kenna wanted to photograph and, after the crowds have gone home, he has been able to do so. "Alone, he has climbed the bell tower, explored the crypts and chapels, and ambled along the silent lanes of the island. He has watched, totally undisturbed, as the light changed, shadows came and went, and clouds subtly floated this way and that. While his camera shutter was open for long, long exposures, Kenna cherished the silence. He sees these photographs as a personal record of this time of solitary exploration; it is a record we are privileged to share. Kenna has dedicated this book to his father and, in a deeply moving introduction, he describes the connection he feels between this solid, calm, inspirational place and his much-loved parent."The first edition of this title was limited to 2000. 250 of those were issued as a special limited edition, and just 50 were issued as a SIGNED DELUXE LIMITED EDITION, with SIGNED/NUMBERED/DATED PRINT, which is offered here. AS NEW condition, direct from the publisher. This book SOLD OUT at the Publisher. This is a special book indeed. The book itself, measuring 11 ¾ x 8 inches, is hardcover, bound in a black silk coating with leather binding and tips. No jacket, as issued. The Artist's name and the title are stamped on the spine. The folio covering it is also a fine silk, and inside there is a clover paper encasement. Beneath that is a high-quality, heavy-stock Japanese paper, measuring 11 ¼ x 7 ¾ inches, which is hinged at the top and has a beveled-edge window in the center to allow the limited edition print to show through. The print image (of the castle atop the mountain) is 4 ½ x 4 inches (the window that reveals it is just slightly larger) and is on a page measuring 10 x 7 inches, anchored on the side. On the bottom, it is SIGNED, DATED, and NUMBERED out of 50. The book, print, and folio are cased in a clamshell (13 x 9 in.) of a striking high-grade black silk, which has tipped-in the center a 3 x 2 ¾ inch image of a cross.
