Description
"MORIYAMA DAIDO: 1970-1979" – (Limited Edition)Photography by Daido MoriyamaPublished by Sohkyu-sha, Tokyo, 1989Daido Moriyama is a major figure in Japanese photography, pioneering a new street aesthetic in the 1960s, inspiring generations of photographers that followed. Moriyama is most known for his grainy, contrasty, black-and-white photos of Japanese street scenes, often shot off-kilter, out of focus, and randomly cropped, taken with his seasoned, sharp, artful, and penetrating eye. His color work maintains a sense of discomfort and alienation, but with a more precise feel. This book showcases Moriyama's work from the 1970s, one of his most productive periods and from which many of his most reproduced and memorable images originate. From the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: "Radical artists, including Moriyama, sought a firm break with the highly regulated Japanese society that was responsible for the [Second World] war, as well as an affirmation of the vitality of a pre-modern culture that was specifically Japanese. Thus, the pictures Moriyama took of the American Navy base Yokosuka — reflecting the freedom he saw there — and the stray dog near the Air Force base at Misawa acknowledge both the liberating newness of the modern experience and its rawness."Moriyama Daido: 1970-1979 is offered in AS NEW condition. It is a LIMITED EDITION hardcover book of fine black cloth with titles stamped in white ribbon, covered by a mylar-protected, pictorial dust jacket. The book measures 9 x 10.25 inches and contains 38 black-and-white plates in 84 pages. Top Choice Books offers an NEW copy of this extremely scarce book of the Japanese master photographer's work for Moriyama fans and fine photobook collectors alike.PAYMENT DETAILS Please use the shipping calculator to determine your shipping costs for US addresses International shipping is available I will only accept PayPal, personal checks, and money orders (bank, post office).
