Description
MAN RAY - Photographs 1920-1934, With a Portrait by Picasso (2nd. Edition). James Thrall Soby, publisher. The Swann Gallery in NYC estimated the value of this rare book to be $2,500 to $3,500. For details, see the Swann Gallery Photographic Literature catalogue, Dec. 13 2007 (auction 2132). Swann subsequently sold their copy sold at $3,360 (see below link for verification of their auction hammer price) http://swanngalleries.rfcsystems.com/asp/search.asp?pg=17&ps=10 This particular copy of the book by Man Ray has a slightly damaged cover, as shown in the photograph. There is a fairly substantial crease across the cover. The title page of the book was signed by the owner of the book, Phillip Harrington. Mr. Harrington was a professional photographer himself, purchased the book new in the early 1940s, and has been the only owner of the book over the past 70 years. I included a photograph of Mr. Harrington published in LOOK Magazine, for which he was a staff photographer. Hence the signature, although not that of Man Ray, should not detract from the value of the book. Harrington is credited with being the first Western professional photographer to publish candid photographs of Communist China. (The photo of Harrington is from LOOK Magazine and does not appear in the Man Ray book) The interior of this copy of the book is close to "near mint." There are NO visible marks, creases, tears or any other imperfection on the pages. The photograveur process used in the creation of this book produced remarkable results, and the pages appear as if they are individual works of art. Indeed, I tend to think the pages themselves could be framed. There is no foxing, very slight yellowing of the edges of the paper, no other imperfections of the interior of the book. Details on the book can be seen at the web page listed below http://www.biblio.com/books/171346336.html USA Shipping will be by USPS Priority Mail box $16.00 (with tracking and Insurance to cover the entire cost) International shipping will be by USPS Express Mail Interntational $45.00 (with tracking and insurance)
