Description
Marilyn - A Hollywood Farewell Text and Photographs by Leigh Wiener Preface by Richard B. Stolley My camera isn't taking very good photos for some reason. The book boards are flat and not warped, and the white textured cloth cover is clean and in excellent shape. The paper dust jacket is evenly faded - you most likely wouldn't notice until you opened the book to see that the inner flyleaf is a darker purple. The clear plastic cover is clean and easily removeable, in case you don't want it on there. Most likely one of the rarest books on Marilyn Monroe. Acclaimed Time-Life photographer Leigh Wiener's photo essay/tribute to MM - chronicling the events from her death through her funeral. The hardcover book contains 93 pages of amazing black&white photos, most never before seen until the publishing of this book in 1990. There's nothing sensationalistic or exploitative here, just a touching rememberance of an event that came all to soon in the life of a woman who never got the appreciation she so richly deserved. The photos of the funeral itself, in which few people were invited, almost give you the feeling that you were there - from the grief on Joe DiMaggio's face, to the silent reserve of Marilyn's fans that were watching the proceedings from the other side of the cemetery walls. This is a fascinating book and would be a crowning glory in anyone's Marilyn collection. The book itself is in excellent condition. The binding is nice and tight, the pages have no tears or stains. The first page and the last page, both blank on both sides, have some slight discoloration towards the outside edge, most likely from people's hands as they've thumbed through the book over the years. The purple Dust Jacket cover has faded somewhat, but it has no tears in the paper. There is a clear plastic mylar cover over it to protect it from damage. The hardcover measures approximately 10.5 inches X 13 inches. Only 500 of these books were ever published, with approximately half of them signed by Wiener. I've seen them for sale online for as much as $2400.00, so here's your chance to get a nice clean copy at a fraction of that price. This is an unsigned first edition. Payment: Personal Check, Money Order, or Paypal Funds must clear before item can be sent Shipping: Actual postage rate to your destination Never any 'handling fee' tacked on Insurance Strongly Suggested!
