Description
This extraordinary book, produced jointly by Cornell Univeristy and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, was entitled The Emergent Decade: Latin American Painters and Painting in the 1960s. It accompanied an exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, but in the foreword it is described as a definitive study on the subject rather than as simply a catalogue to an exhibition. It includes an extensive text by Thomas M. Messer (then director of the Guggenheim Museum) and artists' profiles in text and pictures by Cornell Capa. This is an extraordinary source of information. Of the dozens of illustrations, 14 are in color. Among the many featured artists were Armando Morales, Flavio de Rezende Carvalho, Ivan Serpa, Raimundo de Oliveira, Joaquin Torres Garcia, Jose Antonio Fernandez-Muro, Antonio Segui, Rogelio Polesello, Martha Peluffo, Matta, Ricardo Yrarrazaval, Fernando de Szyszlo, Alejandro Obregon, Fernando Botero, Armando Reveron, Jacabo Borges, Jesus Rafael Soto, Rufino Tamayo, Jose Luis Cuevas, and many others. The hefty 172-page softcover volume measures 13 x 9.25 inches. It shows some moderate overall wear, but is generally in very good condition. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
