After the Civil War, a group of Union veterans met in Philadelphia and formed the organization known as Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, usually referred to as MOLLUS, composed of Army, Navy, and Marine Corps officers. The main accomplishment of MOLLUS was the preservation of the Veterans’ reminiscences and war service in books and papers published by the individual states, by far the best collection of firsthand accounts of life in camp, battle and prison, originally published between 1887-1915. Many of the volumes are scarce, some are unique, and some exist in typescript only. This is a complete set of MOLLUS papers. Introductory Volume by William Marvel, noted author and historian, contains a history of MOLLUS, 1,000 biographical sketches and 116 photographs of contributors. Photograph Volume contains 1272 photos of members of MOLLUS, California and Oregon-1 vol, District of Columbia-4 vols, Illinois-8 Vols, including photo album, Indiana-1 vol, Iowa-2 vols, Kansas-1 vol, Maine-4 vols, Mass-3 vols, Michigan-2 vols, Minnesota-6 vols, Missouri-1 vol, Nebraska-1 vol, New York-4 vols, Ohio-9 vols including photo album, Pennsylvania-2 vols(never before published), Rhode Is-10 vols(includes the Rhode Island Soldiers and Sailors Historical Society Series), Vermont/Misc-1 vol, Wisconsin-4 vols, Index-4 vols.
