Description
***ONE OF ONLY 350 COPIES*** **FIRST 1914 ENGLISH EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, BINDING A** *AUTHOR'S SECOND BOOK* NORTH OF BOSTON BY ROBERT FROST London: David Nutt, 1914. First Edition, First Issue, Binding A with "First edition, 1914" printed on the Copyright Page [See Crane A3]. Hardcover with green linen cloth covers lettered in gold gilt on the front cover and spine. Measures 6" by 7 3/4". 143 pages. Robert Frost's Second Book of Poetry, North of Boston contains 16 of the Poet's earliest and best poems including "The Pasture," "Mending Wall," "The Death of the Hired Man," "Home Burial," "The Black Cottage," "Blueberries," "A Servant to Servants," "After Apple-Picking" and "The Wood-Pile." Whereas Robert Frost's First Book of Poetry, A Boy's Will, brought Frost some notice as a poet, it was this Second Book of Poetry, North of Boston, with its dramatic dialogues and Frost's "Sound of Sense" theory of poetry that established Robert Frost as a First Class Poet not only in England, but in America as well. Robert Frost (1874-1963) was one of the greatest American Poets of the Twentieth Century and was awarded a record-breaking total of Four Pulitzer Prizes in Poetry for such poems as "Birches," "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "The Road Not Taken." However, Robert Frost is probably best remembered for reciting his poem, "The Gift Outright," at the 1961 Inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Near Fine First Edition Copy in nice, tight, clean and extremely collectible conditon without any previous owners' bookplates or ink inscriptions or markings of any kind, and with the gold gilt lettering on the front cover and spine still nice and bright and fresh. One of only 350 copies published in England in 1914, this is a much better than usual copy of this 94-year-old collection of Robert Frost's Most Important Book of Poetry. This Copy would make a great gift or Christmas present, as well as a nice investment considering that the Centennial or One Hundredth Anniversary of the Publication of this Book is only six years away in 2014.
