Description
National cloth  of  Kazakh People     Clothes, as other different items of material culture, reflect the historical development of society, changes in climate, national peculiarities, and aesthetic view of the people throughout the world, their ethno-cultural peculiarities, age categories, and social and ethnic membership of a man. The clothes protect the human body from environmental influence, different natural factors and meet the needs of a human and convey aesthetic meaning changing and decorating man's appearance. National clothes are a rich historical and cultural heritage. Its full study introduces the traditions, customs and the standard of living of the people. The national clothes of the Kazakh people are distinguished by their peculiarity. The reason might be that the Kazakh people led a nomadic lifestyle and were very close to nature. They actually remind them of the clothes of early nomads. Some styles originated during the age of saks. The clothes of the Kazakhs with odor recall the clothes of the saks and the medieval clothes of the Turks. The types of cutout and tailoring of the nomads have survived. As the nomads rode the horses the pants and chapans were tailored wide for convenience. The chapans had odor and were styled to be open on the breast. Studying the clothes of the Kazakh inhabiting near Oyimai and Sagiz in the 20s of the XX century Rudenko S.I. compared the clothes of the Kazakh with politico-ethnological materials and proved that the Kazakhs and their ancestors had the models of feather coats - «kupi» more than two thousands years ago. The Kazakhs believed that having designs and ornaments on the skirt and sleeves and wearing uki (the feathers of owls) protects one from evil spirits, devilry and illnesses. They also believed that they have magical power. The Kazakhs consider the owl to be a holy bird. Later the uki was attached to the tubiteika (skull-cap), to saukele (the head-dress of a bird), the dombra and to a cradle. The men wore the feather from owl wings, i.e. a big black feather. The women wore a soft tender feather from the top part of an owl's small talons. In ancient times shamans, batyrs and akins/sal-seris (poets) also wore uki. The nomads beside uki wore talons and tusks, which was considered protection from evil spirits. These items are worn nowadays as well but in a stylish way. With the development of the society some articles of arts and crafts acquired new appearance and form. Nevertheless all of them have a very national nature. They did not loose their values and beauty and arc used currently. At the end of XIX century the form of national clothes was influenced by the economic and cultural approach with neighboring people such as Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, Tatars and the representatives of the people who migrated to Kazakhstan. At the beginning of XX century the Kazakh intelligentsia adopted the European culture of clothes. They started wearing costumes and pants, and white shirts with a collar and tie. Abandoning chapans the Kazakhs changed to coats. They stopped riding horses and started going on carts. As they considered themselves socially higher, the national clothes ceased to exist for the elite. Those people who dressed according to the new style were mocked and called «short skirted.» The national clothes always attracted historians, ethnographers and art historians. Painters, theatre and cinema representatives and designers created their arts using the elements of national clothes.   384 page, Kazakh, Russian & English   Kazakhstan -  2007   35 x 25  (14x10 cm)   Small Circulation only 5000   Want to know more about Uzbek Culture, Clothes And APPLIED ART - Come in My Store "Antiquarian Textiles" !!!
