The preface explains that the recipes came from two main sources:(1)From the fireplaces and kitchens, note scraps and oral traditions of Colonial women.(2)From the first cook book published in America, in 1742 by William Parks, The Compleat Housewife, or Accomplishd Gentlewomans Companion.Although a half-century old, this volume is in fine condition. The original calf leather cover especially has a handsome patina. Four-rib spine. Gilt title block has some wear, slight chipping. Cover in fine condition.Pages, Condition and NumberPages are off-white, clean and tight. All page edges speckled. No inscriptions or bookplates, no tears or smudges. The author notes that the rag-content paper was manufactured in Miquon, Pennsylvania, and represents a frank and careful reconstruction of the paper manufactured by William Parks at his mill near Williamsburg, which he operated from 1744 to 1750.
