ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG PHOTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAHED IN PURPLE MARKER 136 pages with 125 b/w photographs Robert Rauschenberg (born Milton Ernst Rauschenberg; October 22, 1925 – May 12, 2008) was an American artist who came to prominence in the 1950s transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art. He rarely signed his books!!! [Centre Georges Pompidou]: ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG PHOTOGRAPHS. NYC: Pantheon Books, 1981. First American edition: Originally published in France as “Rauschenberg Photographs” by Centre Georges Pompidou and Editions Herscher. A near-fine hardcover book in a very good or better dustjacket with minor shelf wear and a tiny tear on the cover on the lower bottom left side. Interior unmarked and very clean. Out-of-print. 8.5 x 12 hardcover book with 136 pages and 125 b/w photographs. Includes an interview with Rauschenberg by Alain Sayag. Rauschenberg had a career as a photographer before embarking on a fine art career centering on drawing and painting. His best photographic work recalls that of Walker Evans, Lee Friedlander, and Garry Winogrand. This monograph was published in conjunction with an exhibit of his photographs at the Centre Beaubourg in Paris and contains 5 montages created especially for this publication in January 1981. From the publisher: The book is divided into two parts. The first is a series of photographs taken in 1945-1946, ranging from Tangiers to Rome, from New York to North Carolina.
