Description
LA FAUCONNERIE ("FALCONRY") by JEAN DE FRANCHIERES, avec tous les autres autheurs qui se sont peu trouver, traictans de ce subiect. Printed on Paris, by Abel l'Angelier in 1607. Size : in-4, ff. (4), 127, (5). Title-page printed in red and black, with a beautiful hunting scene, 30 almost full-page plates of falcons, eagles and other birds of prey. Numerous decorative woodcut initials, text slightly damp-stained, a few leaves finely restored at the top and bottom margins, not affecting the text/letterpress. Last three leaves supplied in a fine facsimile, normally bound at the end. 18th century French mottled calf, spine gilt, rubbed, joints slightly cracked but a solid binding. GOOD COPY of this scarce book. Harting wrote «Though thus frequently reprinted, it is still amongst the rarest of French works on the subject». Souhart 195. Harting 145.
