Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Signed 1st Edition. Dark brown hardcover in gold slipcase. This edition of James Joyce's Ulysses consists of 1,500 copies made for the members of The Limited Editions Club, this being #105. This copy is one of only 250 that is signed by both illustrator Henri Matisse and author James Joyce on the limitation page bound in the rear. The illustrative etchings and drawings having been created especially for this edition by Henri Matisse. This edition was designed by George Macy and printed at the printing-office of The Limited Editions Club. Decorated brown boards with gilt lettered spine. 363 pp plus limitation page. In fine condition with the original issue slipcase with brown titles on the spine, in remnants. The book itself is in absolute fantastic shape (one of the best I've seen out of the three copies I've had), while the slip case basically has 3 sides (front and back, attached by a top).  And the three sides are split into two pieces (one side with the top separated from the other side). Also included is the original 1935 letter from the Limited Editions Club.    The two most sought after (and valuable) LEC books published under Macy's leadership are Lysistrata, illustrated and signed by Pablo Picasso, 1934; and Ulysses, illustrated and signed by Henri Matisse, 1935. A limited number of the copies of Ulysses were also signed by the author, James Joyce.    Illustrations are reproductions of black and white Matisse chalk drawings on yellow, blue, and white paper.
