Description   ********* THE PLANT Bangor, Maine: Philtrum Press, 1982/1983/1985 Offered here is all three parts, in a custom traycase and extremely personally inscribed, signed and dated by Stephen King.  Two parts were inscribed to Nick and one inscribed to Vicki.  Fine Condition. Extraordinarily RARE.  Collectors know the value of this very special collection. Excerpted from Stephen King Collectibles, An Illustrated Price Guide by George Beahm (the bible of King collecting!): "Among SK collectibles, this deserves special mention, for three reasons: first, it was published by SK's own private press, Philtrum Press; second, it is SK's only uncompleted project in the sense that he does not intend to finish it, owing to a similarity in plot to the movie, The LIttle Shop of Horrors; and third, it has never been reprinted in any form, and will likely remain available only in their original editions.  From a collector's point of view, these privately printed pamphlets, segments of a novel-length work in progress, presents an additional challenge:  The recipients were people on the Kings' Christmas list - SK felt sending Christmas cards was inssincere and he came up with a better, more personal alternative; thus, no copies were offered for sale to the general public or through specialty booksellers... No matter whether you run across a signed, limited copy or an unsigned copy, the fact remains that The Plant will always be scarce, since the print runs were miniscule.  The Plant (I - III) also marks the involvement of a longtime friend of the Kings, Micahel Alpert, who designed and shepherded through production what would be the first of several Philtrum projects. 1.  The Plant: the opening segment of an ongoing work, published in 1982 in two states: a lettered state of 26 copies; and a limited edition of 200 numbered copies. 2.  The Plant - Part Two, published in 1983 in two states: a lettered state of 26 copies; and a limited edition of 200 copies. 3.  The Plant - Part Three, published in 1985 in two states: a lttered state of 26 copies; and a limited edition of 200 copies."
