As far as we know, our copy is better than the copy in the British Library collection. We viewed the British Library copy some years ago before purchasing this copy  - at that time, the British Library copy was falling to pieces with the covers completely detached and damaged, with stained, torn, loose pages and frayed pages and some loose gatherings inside. The copy you are considering was a special occasion gift - expensively purchased in very good condition. Perhaps the British Library copy has been rebound since we have viewed it, however, in our humble opinion, this book is best in the original binding, as issued, with original decorated endpapers. Note the workmanship of the leather on the cover and spine  - please view the photographs!) Original ornately embossed calf, very decorative spine, TEG ( top edge gilt), others uncut. Decorated end papers. All pages with decoration and ornamentation, black and white and duotone drawings, decorations and vignettes, in addition, 16 full colour plates, each separately printed and tipped-in onto decorated mounts. The contents on a creamy gray-blue colour paper, they are all uniform in colour ( any differentiation is due to the photography). A beautiful book. Condition: An excellent copy. VERY GOOD+/VERY NR FINE. Externally, very minor shelf wear, slight minor scuffs, slight age wear and shelf wear at edges of binding and raised areas. Top gilt edge slightly tarnished over the passage of time. Lovely copy as shown. Internally, FINE. No marks at all, all plates of course fine without creases, no bookplates or inscriptions. The pages are a uniform colour, any differentiation is due to our photography. A very beautiful book, very impressive, one of the most profusely and intricately decorated illustrated volumes I have ever seen.
