Description
DAIDO MORIYAMA: THE COMPLETE WORKS, VOLS. 1-4 (1964-2003) – 4 SIGNED BOOKSPhotography by Daido MoriyamaPublished by Daiwa Radiator Factory and Taka Ishii Gallery, Tokyo, 2003Limited First EditionDaido Moriyama is well known within his native Japan for his grainy, contrasty, black-and-white photos of Japanese street scenes, often shot off-kilter, out of focus, and randomly cropped. His color work maintains a sense of discomfort and alienation, but with a more precise feel. Finally, a retrospective collection of the prolific and pioneering photographer's work has been published.  This exquisitely produced edition was limited to a printing of 1,000 copies, and each book is signed by the photographer in English and Kanji in white marker on black endpaper. Each image is accompanied by its relevant and identifying information (reference number, title, medium, and place of publication). From the publisher:Volume 1 (1964-1973) "collects Moriyama's photos serialized in Camera Mainichi, Asahi Graph and Asahi Camera, published in Farewell Photography, Hunter and Mayfly, and presented in Provoke no.2 and no.3. It contains an assemblage of photos which has recently been discovered in the process of the editing of this volume and barely known in Moriyama's early years. Also included is an interview with the photographer Shomei Tomatsu and an essay by the writer Gerard Malanga."Volume 2 (1974-1992) "contains the complete collection of Moriyama's photos presented in the Shashin Jidai, including his Tales of Tono, Japan, A Photo Theater II and Light and Shadow. The volume also includes a review by fine art critic, Midori Matsui."Volume 3 (1993-1999) "collects photographs published in A Dog's Time, and three- series of Daido hysteric, and the color photos presented in Color and Color 2. With a review by Dr. Charles Merewether, Collections Curator at the Getty Center."Volume 4 (2000-2003) "contains an assemblage of Moriyama's latest photos, including those recently taken for the new collections of photography, Shinjuku and '71-NY. Also included is a biography of the featured photographer by Tetsuro Koike and a review by cultural critic Minoru Shimizu."NEW, 4 SIGNED BOOKS. LIMITED FIRST EDITION.
