Description
"The New Life: La Vie Nouvelle" – Limited Edition with SIGNED PRINT Photography by Lise Sarfati   Twin Palms Publishers, Santa Fe, MN, 2005    Limited Edition with SIGNED ORIGINAL PRINT (edition of 25 copies), Hardcover     Lise Sarfati has been active in Europe for quite some time, in addition to spending ten years in Russia. The resulting photographic work garnered her the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York and the Prix Niépce. Sarfati also photographed Marguerite Duras’ apartment after her death, creating an “inventory of intimacy.” It is with this experienced eye and mind that Sarfati turned her attentions in 2003 to American youth on the edge of adulthood. The result is The New Life, a series of portraits taken in Texas, Oregon, North Carolina, Georgia, and California.   From Magnum Photos: “In each of these portraits, Sarfati dramatizes the complexity of adolescent identity within unfamiliar territory - both emotional and physical - where the simplest of feelings become exalted, and everything is lived with an intensity that adults will never again be able to feel.”   And from the publisher: “Her acute compositional sense combined with an instinctive feel for colour, texture and contrast creates a physical and psychological space which is both engaging and, ultimately elusive.”   The book also contains a list of plates and an essay (in French and English) by Olga Medvedkova.   The New Life is a hardcover book (without dust jacket, as issued) with black cloth-covered boards. The book measures 13 x 11 inches and contains 50 four-color plates in its 120 pages. This special clamshell edition was limited to a printing of merely 25 copies, of which this copy is numbered 15, and it includes an original, signed and numbered c-print, entitled “Girl in Kitchen.” Both items are enclosed within a rich, gray, cloth-covered clamshell box (14 x 12.5 inches) with the title stamped in black ribbon on the cover and title and author on the spine. Top Choice Books offers an NEW copy of this beautifully produced, limited clamshell edition of Sarfati’s exciting project.     PAYMENT DETAILS   Please use the shipping calculator to determine your shipping costs for US addresses   International shipping is available   I will only accept PayPal, personal checks, and money orders (bank, post office).  Payment MUST be received within three business days of the purchase, or the item will be re-listed unless other arrangements have been approved.
