It is not a book plate or facsimile or any other such nonsense. This copy was given to me as a gift from a Finnish student whom I knew as 'Micki'. She stayed with my family in the late 1970s. I was just a kid then and took no notice of the inscription on the title page until I unearthed this book from my collection last year. I have shown the signature to a number of Tove Jansson enthusiasts on the internet and they have confirmed that it looks authentic. In particular the signature has been compared to a handwritten personal letter by Tove Jansson to a fan - the verdict: "I have some letters from Tove and your signatured book is an exact match Jim." Proof of correspondence and verifications can be provided on request. Jansson was extremely shy of meeting her fans and so hardly ever signed copies.
