The majority of copies will have some preventative or major restoration. Most serious collectors now want an unaltered copy so as to decide to have restored or keep it as it.Most 1st/1st jackets have serious paper loss to jacket spine ends, front and rear covers. This copy has surprisingly little to the spine and front cover, but a substantial piece missing from the upper rear edge per photo. However, with the majority of the damage to the rear, restoration may not be necessary.  I can quote restore costs for the rear of the dust jacket to the winning bidder. Please ask.The book has a surprisingly clean covers, no roll or lean to spine. Again, much less wear than usual copies. No writing or marks to pages except for some small date stamps, three, front and rear end pages. However, there is no indication of being a library copy whatsoever. It's possible it was a club copy of some sort. These are on the blank end page. Given the overall wonderful condition, these do not detract from the presentation at all. See photo.In the months ahead leading up to the new films, values of all Hobbit copies, but especially the 1st/1st will soar in value. This will bring out many worse off copies, especially those with no jackets or much more serious damage. Invest today before this one disappears.
